One Boulder Plaza consists of three separate buildings.  While at CommArts I was the conceptual designer for 1301 Canyon Boulevard,18oo Broadway, and was the building designer for 1801 13th Street (shown) in addition to being the overall project master planner.  Completed in 2004, this project consists of 2 floors of below grade parking, street level retail and restaurants, and the upper three floors are class A offices.  The centerpiece of One Boulder Plaza is a plaza which converts seasonally from a wintertime ice skating rink to a summertime seating area with a water fountain, restaurant seating, and an expansion area for the Boulder Farmer’s Market. This project was done as a partnership between CommArts and DTJ Design.

project specifics:

bank of the West

I have done a number of interior remodels and a new Branch Bank Building for the Bank of the West.

I recently completed a new branch bank facility in Kemmerer Wyoming,  I am a licensed architect in Wyoming.

This 2,700 s.f. facility attemted to blend the small-town architecture with contemporary styling to give this client a strong presence in this small but vibtrant town.

Community Plaza

This is a project in central Boulder that was a remodel of an existing shopping center, originally designed by Boulder Architect Hobie Wagoner.  These two centers are similar enough to look like siblings but each has enough character to stand on their own as original.

The Broadway Shops center has a number of  great tenants such as Pharmaca, Rada, Peko Tea, and Whole foods.  These tenants have great views of the Flatirons and a great location within the heart of Boulder. The architecture simply enhances what was present originally by adding the color band and the recessed neon strip of lighting that adds "punch" to the building's undulating form.

The Community Plaza building across the street is similar but curvilinear in form utilizing a poured concrete arch system that structurally supports the precast concrete beams above.  Very simple and elegant, but unconventional at the same time.  This building was accentuated by adding lights to the fascia and painting the fascia a bright yellow.  The tenants within this building are the Boulder Wine Merchant, Vics Coffee, Breadworks, and Moe's Bagels.

This remodel won an award by the Boulder Historical society  for a remodel of an existing building.  This building has become the social heart of north Boulder and is a great place to hang out.  It is heavily used by Boulder Community Hospital.

This project was completed while I was an architect with CommArts in Boulder.

2525 Mapleton

The design of this 40,000 s.f. office building on 28th street in Boulder has been fully leased over the years and is considered a class-A office building in the Boulder area by Commercial Brokers.  The owner was the Centro Partnership.  The Structural Engineers were JVA Inc.  This building was an infill of an urban site that was under-utilized.  The development required a site review in order to obtain the development rights.

The planning of this building oriented the main entry on the south, where the parking is, but to have a street presence on 28th street with a coyurtyard  and secondary entry.  This colorful building is somewhat iconic in a part of town that does not have a coherent feel or quality.
